"The French Institute in Haiti learns with sadness of the departure of the famous Haitian poet Georges Castera with whom we have had the chance to collaborate several times. We offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones and families affected by this sad news." Find out more about Georges Castera fils : Georges Castera fils, born December 27, 1936 in Port-au-Prince, began writing very young, and became known from the 1950s by publishing in Port-au-Prince newspapers. In 1956 he went to study in Europe, 2 years in France then 11 years in Spain where he studied medicine, which he finally gave up to devote himself to poetry and politics. He published his first text in Creole, "Klou gagit", in Madrid in 1965 and his first collection of poetry in French in New York "The return to the tree in 1974". He also worked with directors Syto Cavé and Hervé Denis on Creole plays, such as "Tanbou Tibout-la bout" and participated in the creation of the Kouidor theater troupe, which appeared in 1971. Georges Castera returns to live in Haiti at the fall of the Duvaliers. A period of great poetic fertility followed for him : he wrote most of his essays and collections during the 90s and early 2000s, including, among others, "Ratures of a mirror" and "The five letters In 1992, "Quasi Parlando" in 1993, "Voix de tête" in 1996 and "Burning" in 1999 His latest collection "Sea Things on Ink Wounds" was published in 2010.
