Haiti - Politic : Moïse visits the construction site of the dam on the Marion River
Saturday, President Jovenel Moïse visited the construction works of the micro-hydroelectric plant on the Marion River, in the community of Grand Bassin, in Terrier Rouge (North-East), whose construction underway, is part of the vision of the Head of State to power the country 24/24.

In addition, a reservoir with a capacity of 10 million cubic meters, as well as a solar powered pumping station will also be installed to facilitate watering operations and guarantee the availability of water for farmers by enabling irrigation of the vast cultivable plains in Grand Bassin, Acul Samedi, Savane Carré, Malféti etc... in order to revive agriculture definitively and boost the economy in the department of North-East.

In addition, provision is also made to facilitate access to drinking water for the entire population of the region from the completion of this dam. Treatment centers will be installed through the National Directorate for Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA).

Although the Government is discreet about the power capacity of this plant, the origin of the financing or the companies involved, it can be deduced that this project stems directly or indirectly from cooperation with Cuba or had already been initiated cooperation for the construction of micro-power plant in October 2017 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22357-haiti-politics-towards-a-cooperation-with-cuba-in-the-construction-of-dams.html . It also very likely that Moses in his promise to provide electricity 24/24 to the whole country, is based on the Cuban model that has developed a network of micro-power plants, isolated network for the localities too far to be connected to the interconnection lines of the main transmission grids. In 2010 Cuba had 180 micro-hydro stations, which produce energy from rivers, 31 of which are connected to the main grid, plus 8,000 autonomous solar stations and 1,854 micro-diesel power plants.
