Haiti - FLASH : USA, temporary suspension of deportations of Haitians
Tuesday, following the devastating passage of Hurricane Matthew 4 and 5 October, the Government of the United States announced it was suspending temporarily its decision to deport Haitians in irregular migratory situation living on American soil https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18700-haiti-flash-usa-resumption-of-regular-deportations-to-haiti.html This decision intended that illegal Haitian immigrants are treated as immigrants from other countries, who enter the country illegally.

Jeh Johnson, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary declared in Mexico following a meeting with Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, the Secretary of the Interior of Mexico, "We will have to deal with that situation, address it, be sympathetic to the plight of the people of Haiti as a result of the hurricane," stressing that after this circumstance, the US government had every intention of enforcing its decision and resume the deportations.

For his part, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong said that Haitian migrants were a topic of discussion with Johnson and that it was the responsibility of Mexico to try to improve their living conditions while they are staying there, wishing that the United States proceed to the processing of about 75 Haitian migrants a day at the border crossing point of San Ysidro, in San Diego in order to speed things up.
