Haiti - Agriculture : Start of construction of a 5 km irrigation canal in Malfety
Launch of construction work on an irrigation canal in Malfety (2nd communal section of Bayaha, Fort-Liberté) intended for the irrigation of 7,000 hectares of agricultural land.

This important agricultural infrastructure of approximately 5 km long, 1.5 m wide and 90 cm deep will run from Garate to the south of Malfety to Grande Saline to the north of the area concerned, should be completed within a year

Claude Louis, one of the engineers of this project, specified that the infrastructures already put in place under the presidency of Jovenel Moïse for the construction of the Marion hydroelectric dam, including the reservoir of 10 million m3 of water with the capacity of Irrigating 10,000 hectares will greatly facilitate the realization of this project https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33620-haiti-politic-official-inauguration-of-the-marion-dam.html

Concerning the financing of this work, which has the support of regional agricultural organizations, as well as the Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture among others, the members of the committee in charge of the project encourage the solidarity of Haitians living abroad as well as residents of different regions of the country. Members of the diaspora have already responded to this appeal by donating 1,000 bags of cement and two tons of iron which will allow the work to begin.
