Haiti - Belladère/Carizal : 60 trucks and 18 vans crossed the Haitian border to trade in the DR
Monday, November 6, 2023 in the morning, following meetings with merchants from Dominican organizations and municipal authorities on both sides of the border to seek a solution to the closure of the Haitian border and gradually restart binational trade, it was decided to reopen binational trade via the Belladère / Carizal / (Elías Piña Province) border post.

Previously, some merchants had expressed that it was time to seek an intelligent solution to this situation, assuring that they were now willing to continue the permanent dialogue.

No less than 60 trucks and 18 vans entered Dominican territory in search of "allegedly blocked" goods since the closure of the Dominican border (September 15, 2023 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40503-haiti-flash-dr-closes-its-land-sea-and-air-borders-with-haiti-goods-and-passengers.html ) but in fact, to buy Dominican goods and supply national markets in Haiti. Hundreds of Haitians also crossed the border to make purchases.

President Abinader confirmed Monday the passage of these trucks during his weekly press conference, stressing that some would like to maintain chaos in Haiti. Regarding Haiti's condition for the resumption of binational trade, namely the removal of biometric registration to enter Dominican territory, Abinader was very clear and reiterated that "biometric measures will remain".

Victor Bisonó, the Minister of Commerce and Industry speaking at the press conference said "The drivers were biometricized and registered and received a barcode, there were no problems and everything went smoothly proceeded normally" adding that among them, 19 have already returned to Haiti with goods and the others are still on the Dominican side, being loaded...

Members of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront) and the National Army carried out a search of Haitian vehicles once on Dominican territory so that they could move freely towards the marketing zone.

Let's remember that since last October, the Dominican authorities have relaxed the closure of borders to allow Haitians to come and stock up on products on binational markets https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40698-haiti-flash-partial-reopening-of-the-dominican-border-new-measures-and-an-embargo.html but Haiti, in response to the Dominican measures, has decided to keep its borders closed until relations between the two countries have returned to normal. normal.
