Haiti - Politic : 99th anniversary of the DGI, speech by PM (Video)
Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry joined the big family of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to take part in the celebration ceremony of the 99th anniversary of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI).

Excerpts from Prime Minister Henry's speech :

"[...] My Government renews its desire to support and accompany the Tax Administration, in this case, the General Tax Department, on the reform and modernization projects aimed at meeting the expectations of taxpayers and to mobilize resources to meet the needs of our fellow citizens.

The reform of our tax system in order to promote the sustainable, equitable economic development of Haiti is therefore part of the order of priorities of the Government.

[...] Today, Haiti is the country in the Latin America and Caribbean region with the lowest tax pressure rate, at 6%.

To meet its challenges and ensure the delivery of public services to all citizens, wherever they are, the Government is relying heavily on the consolidation of the public finance management system, and the rationalization of fiscal and budgetary governance.

We must also constantly remind our executives of the need to continue to train, to be in step with the technological evolution that is taking place in the Tax Administrations of the hemisphere [...] Do not forget that above all , human resources are the most important.

It is at this price that the DGI will smoothly pass the milestone of the centenary constantly given to it by this army of experienced, loyal, incorruptible, courteous agents, who give it reasons to continue to accomplish its cardinal mission in the environment [...]"
