Haiti - Justice : Judicial system malfunction
The Committee Coordinator of the Citizen Forum for the Reform of Justice condemns the malfunction of the Haitian judicial system. Jan Hanssens, the representative of Justice and Peace, Committee member believes that "this system was already sick before the earthquake and it is even more today [...] reform of the State should not occur outside of the justice reform".

Father Jan Hanssens has once again called the government to make functional the Higher Judicial Council (Conseil Supérieur du Pouvoir Judiciaire CSPJ) appointing the President of the Court of Cassation "These measures should contribute to the independence of justice compared to the other powers".

He took the opportunity to ask the leaders of the judiciary to shed light on the tragedy that occurred last January in the Cayes prison, where at least 12 prisoners were killed while dozens others were injured in unclear circumstances.
